#Angeline/Fannie McCoy

There are numerous errors in the obituary printed in Catlettsburg in 1938 under the name of Angeline (McCoy) Clark. In fact, there is doubt whether the deceased actually was Angeline, daughter of William McCoy and Mary Burris.

Here are the obvious errors:
*There is no Santa Coy, California.
*The sister named Mrs. C B McQuilen was actually Phoebe Anna Quillen (Mrs. Abraham Quillen).
*Polly McCoy never married.
*The brother mentioned was Johnson McCoy, not Jones McCoy.

It seems likely that the information for the article was taken down by a newspaper employee from a spoken report, probably by Polly McCoy (sister), as many of the errors could easily have been due to misheard words.

This obituary states that Angeline lived in Catlettsburg for 60 years. Yet she cannot be found there in any census as Angeline or Angie McCoy or Clark. Her purported husband, Charles Clark, can be found in census records with his wife, Fannie! (previously supposed to be a sister of Angeline) In the 1910 census they (Charles and Fannie) were reported to have been married for twenty years without children.

Yet the obituary is supported by a death certificate stating that the deceased wife was, in fact, Angeline. The informant was Polly McCoy, her youngest sister. The physician reports, "I did not see her at all. The certificate gives the correct day of birth for Angeline, August 27, but is off by ten years, 1863 instead of 1853 (from the original birth record). It further states that she would be buried at Bash Cemetery.

I have not visited Bash Cemetery. FindAGrave does not list a Clark that would fit. But there is a burial for Fanny McCoy, 1847 (doesn't match) - 1938 (match). The entry there was posted by a Clark. Fanny's husband, Charles J Clark, is buried in Williams Cemetery in Ashland KY; there is no entry in that cemetery (findagrave.com) for either Fanny or Angeline.

The 1928 obituary of another sister, Rachel Jane McCoy, fails to mention Angeline. It names 'Mrs Charles Clark' as one of three surviving sisters, the other two being Miss Polly McCoy and Mrs Abe Quillen (Phoebe Anna McCoy).
