The family of John and Jennett Blackwood McCauley is not well documented. Various poorly-sourced trees have a son John in this family, some have more than one (!). Birth dates for thie/these son(s) range from 1794 to 1807.
There is a John McCauley in the census records who would have been born circa 1807. And this John, whose wife was Margret/Margaret, fits with an 1830 marriage record in 1830 (to Margret Blackwood, a niece of Jennett Blackwood) and with a son who would match the James to whom a father, John, in 1889 deeded the family burying ground on 'the old homestead' in Orange County.
Although this is speculation at the moment, the data fit well with James being the son of John the son of John the son of William Esq. And the burying ground may well be that of William Esq.
