Wm Anderson McCoy Genealogy

The 1900 census for Catlettsburg KY finds Fannie McCoy as head-of-household with brother Bud (or Burt, depending upon how you interpret the writing) and 7-year-old niece Angie, who was born in WV in June of 1892. It seems reasonable conclude that Angie is Bud's daughter, even though he is listed as being single. No marriage is known for him yet (March 2014). She could also have been a child of Lorenzo Dow McCoy, who had died in 1894.

There is a marriage of an Angeline McCoy to George R Moses in Cabell WV a few miles on the river from Catlettsburg on 31 Aug 1914. She is 21, he 22. Parents are not listed.

Angie or Angeline McCoy, born in 1892, does not appear under the McCoy name in later census records.

George Moses' WWI draft registration card dated in 1918 shows him married. The 1920 census shows him widowed. There appear to have been no children from this marriage.

Angeline McCoy Moses's death certificate from 1918 gives her parents as Silas McCoy and Elizabeth Booth.

Putting this together with the 1900 census in which 'Angie' is found with Fannie McCoy (aunt) and Bud McCoy (real name Joseph S), this implies that the S stands for Silas, and that Joseph Silas "Bud" McCoy was Angeline's father.

However, there is a marriage record for Mary E(Lizabeth) Booth and Lorenzo Dow McCoy, Joseph's brother. LD died in 1894. Noting that the information for Angeline's death certificate was supplied by Raymond Moses rather than a McCoy family member, it seems quite possible that Angeline was really Lorenzo Dow's child and that Joseph stood in for her deceased father.

[Addendum: 12/27/2021 - Angeline's birth record has been found. She was born to "L D McCoy" and "Elizabeth McCoy" in Wayne County WV (not Cabell County as stated on her marriage license) on the 7th of July in 1893. The given name appears to be "Amanda", although it confused the person who transcribed it, and the record surely belongs to the person known as Angeline McCoy.]
