Obituary
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1 at First Lutheran Church for Judge Walter G. Huber, who died February 25, 1991 at Immanuel edical Center in Omana. Rev. James McBride and Rev. J. David Nelson will officiate. Prayer services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, February 28 at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
Walter G. Huber was born at Irvington, Nebraska December 24, 1908, the son of George F. and Amanda Borup Huber. As a boy, he was active in 4-H club work and was a member of the Foley's Blue Ribbon Pig Club. He won several honors in judging and showmanship, including the Nebraska Reserve Championship in 1922, which won him a free trp to the 4-H Exposition in Chicago.
He attended grade school at District No. 25 in Washington County, Nebraska and graduated from Omaha Technical High School in Omaha in 1925. He received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Nebraska in 1930 with membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He also received a bachelor of laws degree cum laude from the University of Nebraska in 1932 and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of Nebraska with distinction in 1968.
He married Anna M. Hansen August 24, 1935 at Kountz Memorial Church in Omaha. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1985.
He was admitted to the Nebraska Bar in 1932 and was a lawyer by profession. He was in private practice at Blair from 1939 to 1972 when he became a District Court Judge of the Sixth Judicial District of Nebraska. He served in that capacity for 8 1/2 years. He was president of the Washington County Bar Association from 1968 to 1972.
He served as secretary of the Washington County Democratic Party from 1958-1960 and headed a successful move to approve an amemdment to the Nebraska State Constitution in 1958. He was president of the Nebraska Land Title Association in 1954.
He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Mid-America Council for Boy Scouts in 1958. He was president of the Blair Rotary Club from 1978-1979 and was a member of the organization until his death.
