Residence	Note Township 1 North, Range 6 West in St. Clair County, Illinois. This was the location specified in the July 1863 list of men eligible for military service (q.v. source above), which included 'N. Borup'. Niels Peter Borup is known to have returned to the Belleville IL area from Nebraska following the death of his first wife. He is assumed to have remained in that area until his marriage in June of 1865 to Anna Catharina Hecker, a widow with three children. He has not been located there in census records, some of which are in very poor condition (Illinois State Census of 1855 and 1865). This township contained two settlements in the 1869 map, Mascoutah in the SE corner and Strasburg in the north central area. Strasburg no longer exists (2018); it is not known when it disappeared. The entire area was heavily settled by German immigrants in the mid-1800s.			1c
