My name is Consuelo S. Cagle (Boyce). I am the 1st born child of Christene Jewel Ollis (Cagle) and Clebert Archie Cagle. My Maternal Grandmother was Nora Victoria Anderson (Ollis) and her Father was William Andrew Anderson; her Mother was Izza Elzora "ELIZABETH" Shropshire (Anderson). This was added to this file on Oct. 27, 2010.

Letter I found from an Odessa to my mother, dated 10/30/1983 (excerpt):
Had a letter in Sept from Louise Townley, Clarksville, TN. She is 92 yrs old and is descended from Mary McCauley, dau of John Mc, immigrant. She had received the following info from Hugh H. Moore, 355 Powers Blvd, Waverly, TN 37185, dated Aug 25 1983:
"My mother was a McCauley, her father was Jordon McC and his father was Mathew McC, son of John McC who settled in Chapel Hill, NC from County Down, Ireland. John McC's father was John McC who was in the distillery business in Ireland. Back in those days in that part of Ireland about all they could grow there was Rye and Tobacco. The McCauleys would buy the Rye for the distillery which was made into whiskey and other strong drinks which they would sell to firms in London."
Louise Townley said Mr. Moore's mother was Lamora McC, dau of Jordon McC and his 1st wife Susan Elizabeth Box. She siad Hugh Moore lived in OK during his "business years" and moved back to Waverly, Humphrey Co, TN when he retired. She said hs is either 90 or 70 yrs old (was hard to tell which by her writing). I don't know where he found that our John McC's father was alos named John and that he owned a distillery in Ireland. I'll bet our John McC is a nephew of William and Mathew McC who came to Orange Co, TN just before the Rev. War. Probably his father John was the brother of Wm and Matthew.
Last year while looking through some "Ansearchin" quarterlies (Memphis) I found a Wm McC, John McC and Jesse Reed Harris on the 1840 census for Fayette Co, TN. I have been trying to find where our Wm. McC lived in TN and married Nancy and most of their children were born before they moved to Bradley Co, AR. Believing this could be our own McC because his b-i-l Jesse Reed Harris was also listed on the census, I wrote to Richard T. Davidson of Camden, AR (he is descended from Rosanna McC and Jesse Reed Harris) to ask if his J.R. Harris was in Fayette Co TN in 1840. He replied yes. So I believe the Wm McC on that census was ours and perhaps he met and married Nancy there and that her parents also lived there. Don't know if we can learn if Wm and Nancy were married in Fayette Co.
Also the following info from Feb 1981 NC Genealogical Soc JOurnal was sent to me last year:
Migration as shown in powers of atty by Ransom McBride: 83. MCCAULEY, Mathew of Orange Co NC 26 Aug 1820 appoints "my true and trusty friends George J. McC and James McC (son of JOhn McC) of MOntgomery Co TN" attys to recover from James McC of Dickson Co TN all sums of money owing to him. Witt: Wm. McCauley
McCAULEY, William of Orange Co NC Aug 1820 appts "my trusty friend Geo J McC of Montgomery Co, TN atty to recover from Jas McCauley of Dickson Co, TN all sums of money owing unto me.
I believe that the Jas McC of Dickson Co TN could be the brother of our John McC, immigrant. A grandson of John wrote in a short history of John McCauley, that his brother James and sister Rosanna came to America with him. IN this little history, he said that James McC married and had a large family and moved IL and settled near Cairo. I have tried to find James in IL and checked several census records, but never found him. Also the sister Rosanna is supposed to have married a Neville in Orange Co NC and remained there. But I haven't been able to find her either. The "trusty friend" Geo J McC was a son of the Mathew McC in the Power of Atty document mentioned above. This Geo J McC married a dau of our John McC and moved to TN with our John.
I have thought about writing to Hugh H. Moore and see if he could find out who the James McC in Dickson Co TN was and if he was the brother of our John. There was a Jas McC who married Tabitha Moore (sister of our Mary Moore and dau of James Moore and Elizabeth HIghtower). I have always felt that he was our John McC's brother James.

Note: 1 The published article (from 26 Nov 1771 Belfast News Letter) states that they sailed in May of that year, so arrival may have been in or around July of 1771. Note: 2 Letters written by William J McCauley (grandson of Mathew and Martha McCauley) in 1896 to a cousin state that William was the first of the two brothers to come from northern Ireland to the American Colonies and that he did so 1-2 years before Mathew emigrated. A letter from recent passengers of a ship (including Matthew McCauley) was published in the Belfast News Letter in 1771 announcing their safe arrival in Philadelphia. Although not proven, this appears likely to have been our Mathew McCauley. If that is the case, and if the statement in the paragraph above is correct, then William would have come to America in 1769/1770. As William seems to have been rather well-established in Orange County NC by 1775, he may have come quickly there after arriving in America. Where Mathew was and what he did between 1771 and his arrival (attested to by his wife when a widow) in Orange County in 1775 are unknown.

Note Mathew McCauley of Chapel Hill has a notice printed in the Raleigh newspaper stating that he is in possession of a horse belonging to a young man who died at his (McCauley's) home recently and asking for the man's friends in Tennessee to come and get the animal. The name of the deceased young man was Reuben Bradberry.
