Note

Although family gave Irvington, Nebraska as the birthplace, the 1880 federal and 1885 Nebraska show the birthplace as Pennsylvania.
In the 1860 Nebraska Territorial Census, Ernst and Pauline are living in Ft. Calhoun, Washington County, Nebraska Ernst is 39 and Pauline is 26. He is a farmer with real estate valued at $650 and personal property at $255. Living with them is Pauline, age three. Also living with them is Fred Schrie (brother of Pauline) shown as a farmer, age 39 with real estate valued at $500 and personal wealth at $100. Ernst, wife Pauline, and Fred are said to be from Wertembergh, while little Pauline was born in Pennsylvania.

In the 1870 U. S. Census, Ernest, a farmer age 48, and his wife Pauline, age 35, live on a farm valued at $2500 with personal assets at $1300. They live on the farm with Pauline age thirteen, Charles age nine, William age six, George age four, andEmma age two. Thomas Thomas, a twenty-three year old farm laborer lives with them. Pauline, Charles, and William are shown to go to school. Ernest is a citizen. Both Ernest and Pauline are shown as coming from Wurtemberg. Pauline was born inPennsylvania, and Charles, William, George, and Emma were born in Nebraska. Thomas Thomas is shown to be from Sleswig.

In the 1880 U. S. Census, Ernest and Pauline are living on the homestead in Ft. Calhoun Precinct. The name is spelled Hubert in this census. Ernest was born in Wurttemberg and is 58. Pauline was born in Wurttemberg and is 45. Their parents areshown to be from Wurttemberg also. Living with them are their children:
Pauline born in Pennsylvania, age 23 and working as a servant;
Charles born in Nebraska, age 18 and working on the farm;
William born in Nebraska, age 16 and working on the farm;
George born in Nebraska, age 16 and working on the farm;
Emma born in Nebraska, age 12 and going to school;
Matilda born in Nebraska, age 7 and going to school; and
Ernest born in Nebraska, age 9 and going to school.
